Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) expressed full-throated support for Israel's plan to kill anyone who is appointed by the Iranian regime to lead the nation.
A joint U.S.-Israeli military operation decapitated Iran's leadership structure over the weekend, and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that "any leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime" would become "an unequivocal target for elimination," and the Pennsylvania Democrat told "CNN News Central" that he wholeheartedly agreed.
"Yeah, just keep killing, killing them until they're untilthey're gone," Fetterman said. "I mean, absolutely. I saw that, I'veread that, that they're goingto target who they ever elect tobe their next leader and killthem – absolutely, I fullysupport it. So that'swhat's entirely appropriate now, they have to decide, are wegoing to continue for, choosenow peace, and, or now we'regoing to try to destroy Israel? They really don't have thosecapabilities at this point. It's just empty rhetoricbecause we all know that Iran isn'table to really project the kindsof damage."
Anchor Kate Bolduan asked who should decide the next leader of Iran and whether the senator believes U.S. forces should take part in eliminating any leader who doesn't meet the right measure, but Fetterman again expressed support for only the broad outlines of that plan.
"Well, I mean, hey, I'm sorry, I absolutely, I support killing, you know, the leadership of the Iranian, absolutely," he said. "I absolutelysupport that. I think that'sentirely appropriate untilhopefully they'll pick someonethat realizes that they need tolive and coexist in peace in theregion and stop trying todestroy Israel and to stabilizethe region."
Bolduan pursed her lips during his response and then attempted to end the interview, but Fetterman raised his hand and interrupted to attack his fellow Democrats for insufficiently supporting the same plan he endorsed.
"Anyone, you know, that'sanother thing Democrats say, noone will, no one will mourn thedeath of the ayatollah," Fetterman said. "Well, yeah, so that that's justanother way of saying it's a goodthing that he's been killed, right? You know, I'll call itwhat it is, I won't say, well,I won't weep for him, you know, just call it what it is, it'slike, it's a good thing thathe's been erased."
Bolduan then interjected to summarize recent interviews she's conducted with other Democratic lawmakers.
"I hear your point, but I have had, every Democratwho's been on this show thatI've heard is having twothoughts in their head at once, which is it is good to have theayatollah gone, but they do notagree and do not understand thejustification of going in," Bolduan said. "Nowwith this war at this momentthat is the distinction I'veheard from other Democrats onthe show, but we are now out oftime, senator, thank you for yourtime."
