John Oliver finds 10 clips of Whoopi Goldberg defending famous rapists and other horrible things

In a very brief segment, introduced without comment, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver took a dig at The View host Whoopi Goldberg for her tendency to give the benefit of the doubt -- in spite of overwhelming evidence -- to famous celebrities and friends accused of terrible acts.

Goldberg recently took fire for continuing to defend Bill Cosby from accusations of rape despite recently released court documents where the comedian testified under oath that he gave Quaaludes to at least one woman he had sex with.

Goldberg explained that Cosby "has not been proven a rapist," in a court of law, later stating, "Save your texts, save your nasty comments, I don't care," as criticism of her comments rolled in.

The collection of clips -- offered with a simple "And now this"  by a smiling Oliver -- is titled "Whoopi Goldberg defends ten surprising things."

Among the clips is her famous "I don’t believe it was rape-rape," defense of director Roman Polanski who fled the country after being accused of having sex with a 13-year-old, and Goldberg withholding judgement of singer Chris Brown after he brutally beat his girlfriend at the time, Rihanna, prior to the Grammys.

Speaking of actor Mel Gibson, who she called a friend, Goldberg said "I know he's not a racist" despite audio recordings of him saying to an ex-girlfriend, "You look like a f*cking pig in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n****rs, it will be your fault."

Additionally, Goldberg also questioned whether the moon landing ever happened, and defended torture, saying other countries have used it effectively.
