John Oliver rips Trump's Puerto Rico obliviousness: 'How are you even trying to take a victory lap?'

On this week's edition of "Last Week Tonight," host John Oliver discussed the dire situation in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria and President Donald Trump's cluelessly rosy take on it.

Oliver said it's not "entirely clear that the president understands the gravity of the situation at all," given how eager he is to pat himself on the back about the effectiveness of his administration's response.

"How are you even trying to take a victory lap right now?" Oliver asked, incredulous. "The only way he could have saved that statement was to say, 'And don't forget, I just kind of ramble, I know nothing, I talk because silence sounds weird. Try and think of me as a parrot who's memorized some human sounds, yabba dabba doo, Jumanji, bye bye!'"

He lamented Trump's "depressingly predictable" attack on the mayor of San Juan and the people of the U.S. territory, which suffered a direct hit from Hurricane Maria 10 days ago.
