John Oliver: The Second Amendment has defeated all the other amendments

Tuesday night on The Daily Show, host John Oliver mocked Republicans' discordant response to news about the National Security Agency's surveillance programs.

While some, like Sen. John McCain (AZ), believed the issue didn't even need to be discussed, others provided a more hysterical assessment.

Oliver also noted that some Republicans believed it was acceptable for the government to track every phone call, but an intolerable intrusion for gun owners to register their firearms.

"Guns are one thing, but phone calls are too dangerous to go unchecked," he explained. "Think about it. Really think about it. Some maniac could be calling about going on a shooting spree."

This line of reasoning led to a major announcement.

"The Second Amendment has won the Bill of Rights," Oliver proclaimed. "It has defeated all the other amendments, which of course it did when you think about it -- it's the only amendment with a fucking gun."
