With House staffers in New York City reviewing information related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, a member of the House Oversight Committee accused Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) of doing all he can to run cover for Donald Trump back in Washington, D.C.
Speaking with MSNBC on Wednesday afternoon, Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) questioned whether there would be enough Republican lawmakers willing to jump ship and vote to compel the DOJ to release the entire Epstein files.
After host Anna Carbrera pressed him on how things are progressing, Lynch explained, “We want everything. We don't want a drip, drip, drip. Remember the Republican leadership, Mr. Johnson especially, Speaker Johnson have come kicking and screaming.”
“They did not want to bring in, you know, Alex Acosta, the U.S. Attorney and Trump labor secretary, even though he was the one that that gave the sweetheart deal to Epstein and his co-conspirators down in Florida so many years ago,” he elaborated. “So they don't want this to happen. They want to deflect it. That's why they're bringing in a bunch of other people for depositions that have nothing to do with this. They want to eat up the clock, and they're hoping that they can deflect the attention of the American people. But there's quite a segment of Trump's base that wants to get to the bottom of this as well.”
"And there are a handful of Republican members like Mr. [Thomas] Massie (R-KY), who also, I think, are generally committed to getting justice for these women,” he added.
