Jon Stewart on Bill O'Reilly allegations: Accept that his stories are 'seasoned with bullsh*t' and move on

Daily Show host Jon Stewart was surprised on Tuesday at the questions surrounding frequent adversary Bill O'Reilly and his reporting, wondering if his critics actually watched his show.

"Misreprenting the zone he's in is kind of his hook," Stewart said. "'You're in the No-Spin Zone' are the words he utters right before throwing to some jackass who disproves global warming by wandering around Boston pointing at snow, on a network whose slogan is a textbook case of trolling."

People like O'Reilly and NBC's Brian Williams, Stewart said, have exaggerated their credibility throughout history, making it strange that people are so intent on proving that "the emperor has no clothes."

"Why don't we just agree that a good amount of the personal anecdotes from our media figures are seasoned with bullsh*t, and let's just move on?" he asked.

While news outlets pored over each anchor's alleged misrepresentations, Stewart said, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing far less scrutiny for reportedly exaggerating Iran's nuclear capabilities to the United Nations.

"It seems to me, you know, we might all be just a little better off if the exaggerations about covering a war get less attention than the exaggerations that got us into so many of them," he argued.

Stewart also accused the media of taxing "world outrage supplies" by focusing less on Netanyahu and more on raking Veterans Affairs Secretary Bob McDonald over the coals for telling a homeless man he was also a Special Forces veteran, a claim he had to retract.

"Shouldn't the shocking scandal on this tape not be the awkward attempt to connect with the homeless Special Forces veterans, but the existence of homeless Special Forces veterans?" he asked.
