Josh Hawley swears he's not running for president in 2024: report

Business Insider reported Tuesday that Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who encouraged the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol and led the effort to overthrow the 2020 election, is not running for president in 2024.

It was rumored by many on Capitol Hill that Hawley's cozying up to Trump was about his ambition for higher office, but speaking to the Insider, Hawley said he's not. "He didn't elaborate," the report said.

While there wasn't much more news in the report, the Insider explained that "the prospect of a Trump 2024 run forces Republicans into a careful dance."

Hawley said that he's focused on his Senate reelection in 2022 in Missouri. His hometown newspaper already attacked him for his role to overturn the election that led to the insurrection. "He has blood on his hands," the Kansas City Star editorial board said.

"When Insider asked Hawley if he thinks Trump should step aside so other Republicans can make their presidential ambitions known and lay the groundwork for a campaign, he responded, 'I don't know, you'd have to ask them. Ask my colleagues.'"

Sen. Marco Rubio is also running for reelection in 2022, and told Insider that he wasn't sure if he was going to run again for president in 2024.
