Joy Behar hammers Nancy Pelosi on why Democrats won't impeach Trump for 'obstruction of justice'

Joy Behar spent Monday's episode of "The View" hammering Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on why she isn't pushing for articles of impeachment for President Donald Trump since he admitted to obstruction of justice.

Behar noted that former FBI Director James Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday and is expected to confirm that Trump asked him to drop the investigation into his campaign and Russia.

"It sounds like obstruction of justice," Behar said. "And is it grounds for impeachment?"

"I knew she was going to get around to that word, right," Pelosi said.

"She's hopeful," co-host Jedediah Bila joked with a laugh.

"When that word comes up, I always say ... anything you do has to be based on data, evidence, facts," Pelosi said. "So you can speculate, but it's got to be the law and the facts and how they match up."

"But Trump already admitted on television that he said this to Comey, to please stop the investigation into Michael Flynn," Behar countered, citing Trump's interview with NBC's Lester Holt. "He said it. What more proof do we need?"

"I think for the American people, they need solid evidence," Pelosi noted.

"That's solid!" Behar exclaimed while the audience applauded. "I mean, admission. What more do you need?"

"You, yourself, said you thought Comey's behavior was inappropriate, and his actions were inappropriate, and that he should be fired," Sunny Hostin said.

"No, I never said he should be fired," Pelosi said. "What I said was, what he did as far as Hillary Clinton concerned wasn't -- he couldn't take the heat for it.

"You said he wasn't in the right job," Hostin clarified.

"He wasn't in the right job if he couldn't take the heat for it," Pelosi said. "I'm curious about revealing that investigation and later coming back. He had an impact on the election, there's no question about that. But that's a separate issue from whether the president of the United States asked him to stop an investigation of the Russia connection.

"Of himself," Behar cut in.

"Of himself so again, let's take a deep breath and just calm down in the country," Pelosi said. "This is a serious matter. There is a possibility of obstruction of justice, flirting with it in any event coming out of the White House. If the president were to say he shouldn't testify, that would be very incriminating for the president."
