Joy Reid: Trump 'doesn't know anybody' on Capitol Hill -- but still treats Congress like his 'lackeys'

President Donald Trump may treat Congressional Republicans like they're all his underlings, but with their latest (and nearly failed) effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, some are getting fed up.

In a panel discussion with MSNBC's Ari Melber, host Joy Ann Reid said that one of Trump's biggest failures is his mistreatment of Congress -- a governmental body whose power is supposed to be equal to (and check) his own.

"One of the things has become the most broken with Donald Trump in the White House is the idea of the co-equal branch of government behaving as anything other than supine lackeys," Reid said. "They've behaved as if they're Donald Trump's employees, and (Sen.) John McCain (R-AZ) is standing up and saying 'we're not his employees.'"

McCain standing up to Trump on the latest Trumpcare effort proves how few "friends" the president has in Congress, she continued.

Trump, who "doesn't know anybody except (Sen.) Chuck Schumer (D-NY)" on Capitol Hill, has relied on "the chaos forces the Republican Party to fear the base so much that they do whatever he says," Reid argued.

"[Trump] can't afford to keep alienating John McCain," she concluded, "and yet he doesn't learn."
