Judge releases Rep. Scott DesJarlais' divorce records in extramarital affair probe

On the eve of the 2012 elections, a state judge has ordered the release of Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais' (R) divorce records so that they can be combed for any evidence related to DesJarlais' ethically dubious extramarital affair.

DesJarlais, a pro-life Republican and a doctor, is accused of seducing several of his patients through his medical practice and offering to write them prescriptions for pills they did not need. In one instance, DesJarlais allegedly according to a phone call log obtained by the Huffington Post.

The Tennessee Democratic Party had asked that the records be made public to shed light on the burgeoning scandal that has enveloped DesJarlais and his campaign in the final month of the race. The documents could be available before polls close Tuesday, though it is unlikely they'll cost DesJarlais his seat in the deep red district he represents.

DesJarlais has admitted to the allegations of sexual impropriety, though he has dismissed the abortion accusation as false.

“Desperate personal attacks do not solve our nation’s problems,” he said in a statement earlier this month. “Yet it appears my opponents are choosing to once again engage in the same gutter politics that CBS news called the dirtiest in the nation just 2 years ago.”

After the Post revealed the accusation that DesJarlais coerced a partner into having an abortion, three more women came forward claiming to have also had affairs with DesJarlais through his work. One woman claims to have with the conservative congressman.
