Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon told campaign staff Tuesday night that despite early results showing Donald Trump with a lead in the electoral vote count, the campaign feels “good about what we’re seeing.”
“While we continue to see data trickle in from the Sun Belt states, we have known all along that our clearest path to 270 electoral votes lies through the Blue Wall states,” O’Malley Dillon wrote in an email. “And we feel good about what we’re seeing.”
She said in the email to campaign staff that results from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are expected to come in the next few hours, while complete results in the battleground state of Wisconsin are not expected until early Wednesday morning.
The top Harris-Walz campaign official, who also served as President Joe Biden's 2020 and 2024 campaign manager, and his White House deputy chief of staff, added that polls just closed in Nevada and Arizona and it would also “be a while” before more information is available from both of those critical states.
“We’ve been saying for weeks that this race might not be called tonight. Those of you who were around in 2020 know this well: It takes time for all the votes to be counted – and all the votes will be counted,” O’Malley Dillon said, according to the internal email titled “what we’re seeing so far.”
She closed by encouraging staff to “get some sleep, and get ready to close out strong tomorrow.”
