Kamala Harris: President should open Trump Tower for federal employees to live rent-free during shutdown

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) has an interesting proposal for easing the hardship on federal employees resulting from President Donald Trump's shutdown.

On the thirty-third day of the shutdown, Harris was interviewed on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show." It was her first TV appearance since she announced running for president of the United States on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

"These people cannot be expected to work without pay and they do a job that requires -- and we as the American public would hope -- that they are able to put full concentration in the job that they have concerning themselves about our security, and we're not paying them," Harris noted. "People are worried about eviction."

"Listen, you know what I think should happen? "If the president feels this strongly about it, then open up the Trump Tower and let everybody live in there rent-free, and then maybe we can start having a discussion," she suggested.

"I bet he's got some rooms," she added.
