WaPo columnist buried in mockery as he claims Harris too 'left-wing' to defeat Trump

A Washington Post columnist was hit by mockery for suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris was too "left-wing" to be elected president.
The California Democrat quickly locked down enough delegates to become the party's presumptive nominee after President Joe Biden ended his campaign Sunday and endorsed his running mate.
But conservative columnist Marc Thiessen expressed concern on X that Harris would not be able to win over some Donald Trump critics.
"For Never Trump or Trump reluctant conservatives the Harris nomination is a catastrophic development," posted Thiessen, a former George W. Bush speechwriter and a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
"At least Biden pretended to be a moderate. Now they have to choose between Trump and the most left-wing Democratic presidential nominee in modern times — between Trump and a Democratic Socialist who is to the left of Bernie Sanders. Even the pretense of a benign alternative has been eliminated."
Other social media users questioned his sincerity and political understanding.
"Pretty easy call really, Marc. Vote for the candidate who won't abandon Ukraine to Putin and Taiwan to Xi, and who won't send a mob to Congress to prevent the lawful certification of a national election. Thanks for your concern," posted Mark Salter, a former speechwriter and chief of staff for John McCain.

"The Democrats could have nominated the ghosts of Joe Lieberman and Scoop Jackson, and they’d still be saying this," said veteran journalist Bill Grueskin.
"The thing is, many conservatives have moved so far to the right they have become extremists," said Mari Schaefer of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "That makes moderates also look like they’ve changed."
"Maybe you shouldn’t have allowed your party to be hijacked by extremists?" said podcaster Rachel Vindman, whose husband served on the National Security Council under Trump and testified against him during his first impeachment.
"Never Trumper here. I'm voting for the person who didn't deceive millions of people into thinking they won an election, which they clearly did not win," said X user FrankieInChi. "All because they were too narcissistic to let go of power. It's a pretty clear choice."
