Kansas GOP Senate Majority Leader arrested for alleged DUI and fleeing the cops: report

According to a report from KWCH, the Majority Leader for the Republican-dominated Kansas State Senate was taken into custody on Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and fleeing police who stopped him.

The report states that Gene Suellentrop -- who has held his Senate seat since 2017 after serving in the House -- was booked into the Shawnee County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

The Kansas City Star is reporting, "The Wichita Republican was booked at 3:55 a.m., according to online jail records," adding the lawmaker is "accused of driving under the influence, attempting to flee or evade a law enforcement officer, speeding and improperly crossing a divided highway."

The Star is also reporting that a spokesman for the lawmaker and Senate President Ty Masterson confirmed the arrest.

Suellentrop is in his first term as the majority leader.
