Kansas state employee who claimed she was fired for not attending church loses case

A woman who claimed that she was fired from her civil service job with the state of Kansas because she didn't attend church has had her case against the state dismissed.

According to the Capitol-Journal, Courtney Canfield, who accused Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rucker of firing her over her lack of devotion, failed to convince a jury that the state was at fault.

Canfield and said the only black mark against her was taking a personal phone call while on the clock, -- for which she said she was sent home.

According to Rucker, who testified under oath, Canfield was consistently absent from work, had trouble staying at her desk and was constantly on her cellphone.

Following less than 2 days of testimony, the jury made up of five women and three men sided with the state.
