A former White House lawyer unloaded on Donald Trump's pick for the FBI after joining about two dozen other GOP officials in urging Republican senators to oppose the controversial nominee.
Ty Cobb joined CNN's "OutFront" with Erin Burnett on Wednesday night to discuss Kash Patel, after he and other GOP officials blasted the nominee for "poor judgment" and "motivated by revenge."
When Burnett asked Cobb what it would mean for the FBI if senators confirmed Patel, Cobb minced no words.
"It'll be a significantly demoralizing event," he said. "Perhaps the most demoralizing event in the history of the FBI. Comey certainly brought a pall over the agency given his misconduct, but this would be a shocking deflation of the morale at the FBI. Patel is not qualified remotely by character or experience to do this."

Cobb added that intelligence experts he worked with in the White House were "openly skeptical" of and "nervous" about Patel.
"This is somebody who is a real danger to democracy and certainly a dagger in the heart of the FBI," he concluded.
Patel has made several controversial statements in the past — many of which will likely face scrutiny during his confirmation hearing, including reportedly creating what many describe as an "enemies list" of about 60 people he believes should be targeted by the Trump administration.
Patel has defended Trump for taking classified documents with him out of the White House to Mar-a-Lago and blasted the media as "liars" who ought to face retribution, vowing to "come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections."
