Here's Katie Britt's answer to allegations she lied in State of Union response

Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) provided what one legal expert referred to as a "non-denial denial" when asked about a potential lie during her response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union.

Raw Story reported on Friday that Britt had been alleged to have told an "out and out lie" during her breathless response to Biden's speech. Essentially, a reporter accused Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) of making false statements when she discussed the horrors of a girl sex-trafficked by Mexican cartel members.

"These events didn't happen in the United States," said the journalist in a video. "These crimes didn't take place in the United States. Or even near the border. They took place in Mexico."

So, it took to other reporters to pick up the story. Enter AL.com columnist Kyle Whitmire. He contacted Britt, and was able to get a statement from her people on whether the reporting was true that she was talking about a woman by the name of Romero, and that the scenario occurred during George W. Bush's administration.

"Here is the answer I got from Britt’s spokesman Sean Ross. I don’t think it answers the question and, as you can see, I have asked for further clarification," the local columnist wrote on social media on Saturday.

According to the screenshot provided by Whitmire, Ross provided the following statement:

"The story Senator Britt told was 100% correct. And there are more innocent victims of that kind of disgusting, brutal trafficking by the cartels than ever before right now. The Biden's Administration's policies-the policies in this country that the President falsely claims are humane-have empowered the cartels and acted as a magnet to a historic level of migrants making the dangerous journey to our border."

The text continues:

"Along that journey, children, women, and men are being subjected to gut-wrenching, heartbreaking horrors in our own backyard. And here at home, the Biden Administration's policies are leading to more and more suffering, including Americans being poisoned by fentanyl and being murdered. These human costs are real, and it's past time for some on the left to stop pretending otherwise."

The reporter then asks, "Thank you for the response, but to the question, the woman she met was Romero, correct?"

Whitmire adds to his readers: "He hasn’t responded further."

Conservative attorney George Conway weighed in:

"This. Is. The. Epitome. Of. A. Non-denial denial," he wrote. "WOW."
