On Friday morning, the members of a panel on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" were either stunned or amused by the State of the Union response given by Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL), with the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson left almost speechless.
Britt's speech was delivered from her kitchen — where Republicans hoped she would come across as "America's mom" — was widely panned across social media, including by supporters of Donald Trump, and the panel on MSNBC also piled on.
After spending most of the morning praising Biden's speech, Britt's kitchen talk, which led one GOP operative to admit to the Daily Beast, "Everyone’s f**king losing it. It’s one of our biggest disasters ever,” became the center of the conversation.
"If they stayed up to watch the Republican response, you had Joe Biden talking about fundamental rights that everyone deserves to have, that women deserve to have as human beings, as Americans," Robinson remarked. "You had Senator Katie Britt, for some bizarre reason, they decided to stage her in apparently her kitchen, which says a lot about how the Republican Party sees women."

"One instant, she was near tears. the next instant, she was smiling the next instant, she was, you know, serious.," he continued. "It was all over the map."
"Again, I'm not sure that a lot of people stayed up to watch that, but if they did, whoa. That was at the Bobby Jindal level, I think, in terms of responses," he laughed.
Former White House Director of Communications Jennifer Palmieri agreed, pointing out that conservative gadfly Charlie Kirk hammered Britt's speech almost immediately.
"He was disappointed in the speech," she told her colleagues. "I looked at what his responses were like; a lot of his followers were very unhappy with it."
"There's this thing on TikTok, in particular, called the 'tradwife,' which is a traditional wife, a woman that very much embraces the stay-at-home mom, great, you know, but presents in a certain way," she explained. "I feel like that is the cadence and emotion she was going for was to present as one of these TikTok moms."
"You know, Claire McCaskill broadcasts on 'Morning Joe' every morning from her kitchen and it's great," she laughed. "You'd have no idea this woman was a United States Senator! You know, a Republican man might have done a speech, a response like that from his kitchen, but we would have heard something about being a United States Senator and something about governing and something that resembled the truth."
"That was just wild," she added. "I mean, I have never -- and I was reassured to see that even people on the right, people were rejecting whatever it was that they were trying to convey about women's place."
