Katy Tur: Trump's 'calm before the storm' comment probably just more reality TV 'dramatics'

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur blistered President Donald Trump on Friday over his ominous "calm before the storm" comment to a Thursday night gathering of military leaders.

Tur -- who followed the Trump campaign for NBC -- pointed out that that this is nothing new for Trump.

"The president has a tendency to do this," she said. "He has a tendency to tease upcoming news that never pans out."

She then played a clip real of times that Trump has promised that big news was coming, only to have the story fizzle.

One anonymous White House aide told Jonathan Swan of Axios.com that Trump is "just trolling" everyone, an opinion that Tur appears to share.

MSNBC White House correspondent Peter Alexander reminded Tur that Trump is "a reality TV star who "knows how to sell a story or an episode, as it were. This -- in TV terms -- is a pretty good cliffhanger."

"Should we just ignore what the president says?" Tur asked. "Is that the best way to go about this? Is it us just falling for Donald Trump's flair for the dramatic? I mean, this is the president of the United States and he's saying something vague and potentially threatening. Do we have a duty to try and find out what in the world he means, if anything?"

Washington Post White House correspondent Ashley Parker said that people should push past Trump's smoke screen of words and watch "what he actually decides."
