Kavanaugh backer sexually demeaned by nominee in high school yearbook -- and she just learned about it

A woman who backed Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination was referred to disparagingly in the nominee's high school yearbook.

The New York Times reported Monday that Renate Schroeder Dolphin was referenced in an apparently disrespectful way in Kavanaugh's 1983 Georgetown Prep yearbook.

In the yearbook, Kavanaugh and his football teammates are listed as "Renate Alumnius," and the name "Renate" appears at least 14 times in its text. According to two of the nominee's classmates, the mentions were derogatory boastings of sexual conquests.

“They were very disrespectful, at least verbally, with Renate,” Sean Hagan, a Georgetown Prep classmate of Kavanaugh's, told the Times. “I can’t express how disgusted I am with them, then and now.”

According to the report, Dolphin was one of the 65 women who signed a letter vouching for the nominee after knowing him in high school. She was not aware of the mention of her name in the 1983 yearbook when she signed the letter on September 14.

"I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago,” Dolphin told the Times in a statement. “I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue."

"I pray their daughters are never treated this way," she added.

In a statement, Kavanaugh's lawyer Alexandra Walsh claimed the mention refers to a single kiss the two shared in high school.

“Judge Kavanaugh was friends with Renate Dolphin in high school," Walsh's statement read. "He admired her very much then, and he admires her to this day."

"Judge Kavanaugh and Ms. Dolphin attended one high school event together and shared a brief kiss good night following that event,” she continued. “They had no other such encounter. The language from Judge Kavanaugh’s high school yearbook refers to the fact that he and Ms. Dolphin attended that one high school event together and nothing else."

Dolphin told the Times through her lawyer that she never kissed Kavanaugh and that he "must have me confused with someone else."
