Kayleigh McEnany: Trump had 'great week' because he 'tailored message' to blacks at all-white rally

Trump campaign surrogate Kayleigh McEnany argued on Thursday that the Republican presidential nominee had a "great week" in spite of his campaign shake-up because he spoke to a mostly white rally with a tailored a speech to African-Americans.

During a panel discussion on CNN, host Alisyn Camerota pointed out that Trump organization executive Michael Cohen had seemed to be in hilarious denial on Wednesday about Trump's poll numbers.

"I appreciate his optimism," McEnany said in Cohen's defense. "You've got to be optimistic. And I like that about him."

McEnany argued that the benefit to being behind was that "you're going to fight to get out of it and you're incentivized to really shift the campaign and push forward."

Democratic strategist Angela Rye called Cohen's denial "very dangerous."

"Michael Cohen is a true reflection of his candidate," she explained. "[Breitbart's] Steve Bannon [is] a true reflection of his candidate. I don't know what's next. Perhaps they will bring in a president of the campaign because he's run out of leadership spots at the Trump campaign."

McEnany, however, insisted that Trump had a "great week."

"For the first time we say Donald Trump tailor his message to African-American voters, which it's crucial that he expands into the minority community, among women. We saw him sit at a table with national security advisers. We saw him get his first classified briefing. This was a very good week."

"If he can do what he did this week for the rest of the campaign, he will win this election because this is a change election and people want a difference."
