Kellyanne Conway snaps at Dem senator for grilling Pompeo: Trump 'is acting civilly and getting things done'

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, suggested on Thursday that Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) was not acting "civilly" when he grilled Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about Trump's private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During a Fox & Friends interview, Conway accused Menendez of "screaming and insulting" Pompeo at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.

"Under this president's global leadership, America is back," Conway told the hosts of Fox & Friends. "We are no longer on an apology tour. We are out there putting America first and that should attract Independents."

According to Conway, Independents are natural Trump voters because "they don't really like the government."

Conway went on to claim that Pompeo "owned" some of the Democratic senators who wanted to know what Trump told Putin. She also accused Menendez of "preening for the cameras."

"Bob Menendez [was] basically screaming and insulting Secretary of State Mike Pompeo," Conway complained, adding that Independent voters "should look and see who's acting civilly and getting things done."

At Thursday's hearing, Pompeo accused the Democratic senator of playing "games" with his questions about Trump's meeting with Putin.

"I don't appreciate you characterizing my questions," Menendez told Pompeo. "My question is to get to the truth. We don't know what the truth is. The only way we know what the truth is, what transpired in those two hours in a highly amazing period of time to spend alone one on one, is by understanding at least that if you were briefed by the president, what he told you. I don't think that's unfair to know."
