Kellyanne Conway's husband tears apart Trump's declaration that Mueller's probe is 'unconstitutional'

President Donald Trump on Monday said that the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller was an "unconstitutional" action -- but this claim was quickly shot down by none other than George Conway, the husband of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.

In particular, Conway responded to a tweet from Politico reporter Josh Gerstein, who said that not even former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort had gone so far as to say Mueller's appointment was unconstitutional in his efforts to undermine the probe's legal authority.

"If [Trump's argument about the Mueller probe being unconstitutional] is true, you'd think Trump's ex-campaign chairman would've made this argument since he's facing a potential life sentence," noted Gerstein. "But he hasn't."

Conway agreed with Gerstein's analysis and offered some additional thoughts of his own.

"And if this were true, you’d think this conservative Republican-controlled Department of Justice would revoke or decline to utilize the Special Counsel regulations," wrote Conway on Twitter. "But it hasn't."

Conway has never been shy about criticizing President Donald Trump, despite the fact that his wife is one of the president’s most ardent defenders on cable news shows.

Last year, for instance, he ripped into the president for undermining his own proposed travel ban with a series of impulsive tweets. He has also recently been retweeting articles that criticize the president’s alleged affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels, as well as stories that mock Trump for being unable to hire top-notch legal counsel to defend him in special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
