'Brush up on the Ten Commandments': Ken Paxton's 'virtues' ripped by GOP senator

A GOP senator slammed his primary opponent on Monday over the separation of church and state.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) made the remarks after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced he planned to force local schools to display the Ten Commandments even though Texas courts have said doing so is illegal.

"I'm instructing Texas schools to display the Ten Commandments in accordance with Texas law," Paxton wrote in a post on X. "I will not back down from defending the virtues and values that built this country."

Cornyn, who Paxton is challenging for his Senate seat in 2026, bodyslammed the attorney general's comments.

"Might want to brush up on the Ten Commandments, Ken," Cornyn posted on X.

Last month, Paxton's wife announced on social media that the two were divorcing on "biblical grounds."

"I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation," Angela Paxton wrote on X at the time. "But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.

While the specifics of the filing have not yet been made public, some have speculated that it may be because of infidelity. In 2023, an investigation into ties between Paxton and a prominent Texas real estate developer discovered that Paxton used a fake alias to pay for rideshare rides and meet with a mistress, according to reports.
