Kent State tells 'gun girl' alum she can't hold right-wing rally on campus unless a student group supports her

Kent State University graduate Kaitlin Bennett hit a roadblock in her plans to hold a rally to protest the school’s restrictive open carry policies.

University administration told Bennett, who graduated last year, that she must find a student group to sponsor her rally on the school's campus.

Bennett who goes by the name "Kent State gun girl" planned a huge rally with right-wing groups including InfoWars and Patriot Prayer for Sept. 29

Bennett received internet fame after she posed with a gun for her graduation pictures. While she was a student, she founded the organization Liberty Hangout, and the club is now run by student Michael Heil.

Heil did not respond to request for a comment. Bennett is still hopeful that her rally will still happen.

She took to social media to broadcast her obstacles in planning the event. While trying to schedule a meeting with faculty, she said staff members refused to make the appointment because they are biased against gun owners.

The university also sent a similar letter to a local Black Lives Matter group who planned to protest Bennett's rally.
