'Got to be kidding': Kevin McCarthy shredded for 'brain rot' boast about GOP ethics

With the news that Maine's Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner has been accused of sexual assault, and facing massive pressure to drop out of the election, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took to Fox News to take a victory lap about Republicans' own ability to choose upstanding candidates.

"One thing I know about Republicans is when we had a very bad candidate, we didn't vote for that person. We walked away," said McCarthy.

This triggered a tsunami of outrage from commenters on social media, who were swift to note not only have several Republican candidates been accused of heinous sexual misconduct, including toward kids, only to still receive significant party support, but that Trump himself has a massively long list of women accusing him of everything from harassment to assault.

"I’m sorry, what?!" wrote former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).

"You’ve got [to] be kidding," wrote political commentator Krystal Ball.

"Are you absolutely (expletive) kidding me right now?! Shut the (expletive) up Kevin," wrote policy consultant Adam Cochran.

"Except in the Texas senate race and ….." wrote commentator Molly Jong-Fast.

"TRUMP IS THE (expletive) PRESIDENT WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!?!" wrote left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, who earlier Monday publicly disavowed Platner. "THE (expletive) SECRETARY OF WAR HAS THE EXACT SAME RAP SHEET AS GRAHAM PLATNER!! HE WAS A HOST ON THE NETWORK YOU'RE CURRENTLY SPEAKING AT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yes. He personally walked all the way to Mar-a-Lago," wrote political commentator Sam Stein.

"I understand this is basically the only thing they can say here but god imagine the brain rot required to say this with a straight face when Donald Trump is President," wrote Run For Something president Amanda Litman.
