The former House Speaker might boomerang to Bakersfield and back to D.C. again.
In an interview with CBS News set to be aired Sunday, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) dropped a suggestion that he'd join forces with former President Donald Trump, should he find a way back to the White House.
The network's chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa asked McCarthy if he would consider serving in a Trump cabinet seat.
McCarthy didn't blink.
"In the right position, look, if I'm the best person for the job, yes," he said. "Look, I worked with President Trump on a lot of policies. We worked together to win the majority. But we also have a relationship where we're very honest with one another."
The comments come days after McCarthy announced that he's leaving Congress at the end of the year after he was unceremoniously benched from the speaker role when he attempted to forge a compromise with Democrats in May to raise the debt ceiling.
Oddly, McCarthy has yet to update his bio on his official website, which reads: "Congressman Kevin McCarthy proudly serves California's 20th District and is currently the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives."
As far as offering his prediction for the 2024 election, he is big on Trump notching the nomination.
