Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father attacked by then-candidate Donald Trump in the 2016, came out swinging on The View on Monday, tearfully recalling his friendship with the late Senator John McCain, and landing body blow after body blow on the president who disrespected the war hero's memory.
"I am honored to sit under your grace, under the grace of Senator McCain's family, our hero," Khan said, his voice breaking and his eyes welling up with tears. "How dare this Russian-tainted president disrespect our hero."
McCain "would sit across the table without asking what political venue I belonged to, what are my perspectives, what are my political views," Khan said. "He would try to in his conversation to encourage me, hearten me, ask always about the family. That is decency. That is courtesy. That is heroism."
"This president forgot to read the chapter that teaches how to be commander-in-chief of the United States," he went on. "Somebody should read it for him, so that he could learn to take care of those who have sacrificed so much."
