Arguing that Donald Trump “expects to be indulged and catered to” by people around his orbit, a former GOP senior staffer asked an MSNBC host on Tuesday: “Wouldn’t it be nice if Kristi Noem had as much patience, say for her pet animals, as she does for Donald Trump on stage?”
The moment came on MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” when host Nicolle Wallace asked Amanda Carpenter, a writer and editor at the organization Protect Democracy and former aide to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), what she made of the former president’s recent events, including his Monday night town hall in which he stopped answering questions and instead danced to music.
“I don't feel qualified to make an assessment of his mental acuity, but I am certainly comfortable saying that this is evidence of an executive who expects to be indulged and catered to at all times,” Carpenter said. “He is not used to being challenged and is used to getting free reign to go on whatever tangent he chooses.”
Carpenter, who regularly appears as a network political analyst and also served in a senior staffer role for former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), went on to say that scenes such as the one that unfolded Monday night “is not just about Trump” but also “the people who are around him and continue to indulge him."

“I mean, wouldn't it be nice if Kristi Noem had as much patience, say for her pet animals, as she did for Donald Trump on stage right there? It's really stunning,” she said.
The comments are an obvious reference to an admission in Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s memoir, where she recalled a story of killing her family dog for misbehaving.
Carpenter added that she is convinced that Trump is “completely sound of mind” despite the increasingly alarming statements that he has made.
"And the reason he is so comfortable saying these things is because there are no Republicans on stage with him who can challenge him on it," she added.
