Los Angeles Lakers fans expressed outrage after reports revealed the franchise is being sold to Josh Kushner, a venture capitalist, and Bob Iger, Disney's former CEO.
The sale is valued at approximately $12.5 billion, the largest sum ever paid for a U.S. sports franchise, according to The Athletic.
Jared is President Donald Trump's son-in-law, married to Ivanka Trump.
The deal would replace current owner Mark Walter, who acquired the team only last year at a $10 billion valuation.
Walter's swift exit reportedly stems from a federal probe into his firm TWG Global and health concerns following a 2024 stroke.
Josh Kushner's involvement sparked immediate backlash, with fans criticizing the Trump family's expanding business interests.
Twitch streamer Scoob called the deal "strip mining" the country on social media.
NBA commentator Bomani Jones wrote, "This is…weird."
