Cheers erupted Thursday night after a MAGA influencer and major ally of President Donald Trump announced a “hiatus” in the wake of Republicans’ historic midterm defeat.
“Hahahahahaha, oh it just keeps getting better and better,” wrote screenwriter and comedian Jay Black in a social media post on X.
That influencer is Laura Loomer, who hosts the weekly show “Loomer Unleashed” and wields “breathtaking influence” in the White House, having played an outsized role in the administration’s mass firings and immigration policies. She’s also sparked controversy for her racially charged remarks, describing herself as a “proud Islamophobe” and calling Muslims “savages.”
“This definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the MAGA movement cratering,” sarcastically quipped journalist Josh Marshall, editor-in-chief of Talking Points Memo.
Loomer’s racially charged remarks have not been limited to Muslims. She’s also called Indians “third world invaders” whose culture centers on “rape,” and warned that the White House would “smell like curry” if former Vice President Kamala Harris — whose mother was Indian — won the 2024 presidential election.
“Hopefully this is a permanent hiatus. Just move to Israel and enjoy the rest of your life,” wrote Dennis Feitosa, a former GOP congressional candidate and comedian, referencing Loomer’s outspoken support for Israel.
Reports have connected Loomer to several consequential Trump administration decisions. Multiple Trump administration firings have been directly attributed to Loomer, including a purge of National Security Council officials in April 2025 and the firing of federal prosecutors from March to July 2025. Loomer was also credited with the Trump administration’s decision to halt visas for Palestinian children seeking medical care in the United States.
“Sign of the times that Laura Loomer is putting her live-streamed show on hiatus?” asked journalist Brian Stelter, suggesting that Loomer’s hiatus was triggered by Republicans’ midterm losses.
