Lauren Boebert gets brutal fact check after spreading 'third-hand anonymous' claim as fact

Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert blamed the media for a purported cover-up after a local journalist asked the GOP lawmaker about how she "confirmed" an anonymous report she was spreading as a fact.

Boebert recently said that it was "confirmed" that a Venezuelan gang known as Tren de Aragua is involved in child sexual abuse and prostitution in Aurora, Colorado, but that doesn't look to be the case, according to journalist Kyle Clark.

Clark, of Next 9NEWS, said the gang claim "first surfaced" recently "as an anonymous, third-hand account."

"When we asked Boebert for her evidence, she alleged a media cover-up," Clark said.

In a news report, Clark stated that, as "each new claim about Aurora surfaces," the outlet tries to verify whether or not it's true.

"Take the claim that the gang, Tren de Aragua, is involved in child prostitution in Aurora. We had not heard that from anyone, on any side of this issue, until two days ago," Clark said on his show. "So where did it come from? It's from a report prepared by a law firm... in that report, it is cited as a third-hand, anonymous claim. Someone told someone, who told the law firm, which then notified the city of the claim on August 8th."

Clark added that, this week, Boebert said in a letter to President Biden's administration that the "gang's sexual abuse of children in Aurora is confirmed. So we asked her how she confirmed that."

In her reply, Boebert stumbled over the name of the gang and blamed the media for a cover-up, according to Clark's report.
