Lawrence O'Donnell: NYPD will do everything to protect Bologna

MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell said on his show Wednesday night that the New York Police Department would probably do nothing to a senior officer who pepper-sprayed young women at the "Occupy Wall Street" protests.

Update: The officer has now been identified in two unprovoked pepper-spray attacks. Watch the second one here.

Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said at a press briefing on Wednesday that the Internal Affairs Bureau would investigate Inspector Anthony Bologna's decision to use pepper-spray against the four female protesters.

"The culture of the department will do everything it possibly can to protect Inspector Bologna and it remains very, very unlikely that the police department investigation will result in the disciplining of Inspector Bologna or any other officer," O'Donnell said. "The spirit of these investigations is always a mix of investigation and instinctive institutional coverup. Police departments don't want to the truth about these incidents and they don't want you to know the truth about these incidents, they do everything they can to hide these truths."
