Lawyer for ultranationalist group arrested for lying to police about his ‘stolen’ guns: report

The attorney who represents the ultranationalist Proud Boys organization was arrested by Texas authorities for filing a false police report alleging he had three guns stolen, The Daily Beastreported Tuesday.

Jason Lee Van Dyke called police on September 13 to report that someone had stolen three guns from his pickup truck.

Van Dyke claimed he scared off the thief when he burnished a firearm from his house.

The story began to fall apart when Van Dyke's roommate told police a different story.

The roommate said the guns had gone missing earlier in the day, before Van Dyke called police with the burglar story.

And the brick the thief allegedly used to break into the truck matched the bricks in Van Dyke's fire pit.

Police concluded Van Dyke had fabricated the burglary story and arrested him for filing a false police report.

“I completely deny these allegations and I look forward to being exonerated and I’ve got no further comment,” he told The Daily Beast.

"Presently, Van Dyke spends much of his time acting as legal counsel for the Proud Boys and engaging in spats with enemies online," The Beast explained. "In 2014, he tweeted a picture of a noose at an enemy and demanded he 'look good and hard at this picture you fucking n****r. It’s where I am going to put your neck.'"

The Southern Poverty Law Center describes Van Dyke as "a neo-Confederate lawyer."

Van Dyke, however, has claimed the Proud Boys, “do not now, nor have they ever, espoused white nationalist, white supremacist, anti-Semitic, or alt-right views.”

Van Dyke was released from jail on $1,000 bond.

The location of Van Dyke's firearms apparently remains in doubt.
