Lin-Manuel Miranda's heart-wrenching #TonyAwards speech: 'Love is love cannot be swept aside'

Actor, writer, and composer of the acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, was the favorite going into Sunday night's Tony Awards, for every award he was up for. But it was his first win for best original score that Miranda broke out a heart-wrenching speech that brought the audience to tears and applause.

"When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day," Miranda said, in what he called his sonnet-speech. "The show is proof that history remembers. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger. We rise and fall in light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer. And love, is love, is love, is love, is love, is love, is love, is love cannot be killed or swept aside," he said through tears. "I synchronise a symphony, Eliza tells her story. Now fill the world with music, love and pride."
