Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) had some harsh words for one GOP senator in particular who voted to pass President Donald Trump's budget bill after securing significant carve-outs for their state.
Dean's comments were directed at Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who secured two significant provisions in the Senate version of the budget bill. For instance, CNN reported that a provision was added that delays a rule for states with high error payment rates to contribute to the cost of food stamp benefits. The bill also includes a provision allowing states like Alaska and Hawaii to waive work requirements for Medicaid benefits because of high unemployment, the outlet reported.
"Honest to God, Brianna," Dean said on "OutFront," hosted on Tuesday by Brianna Keilar. "I can't tell you how disappointed I am. You saw how close this vote was. They had to pull in [Vice President] JD Vance because it was a tie vote."
"What I would ask Sen. Murkowski, and every senator, [is] do your job!" Dean continued.
Trump's budget, also known as the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act," has become deeply unpopular with the American people. Recent polling shows that 55% of Americans disapprove of the bill. Even so, President Donald Trump set a July 4 deadline to pass the bill.
Estimates show it could force tens of millions of Americans to lose their health insurance. It would also significantly decrease funding for public education and social benefits.
"This is something that Republicans have wished for for a long time. Cruelty. Harm to their constituents," Dean said.
