A long-time Atlanta-area radio host is in hot water for apparently airing a falsified interview with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Steve McCoy has been fired from his job as radio host for NewsRadio 106.7, 11Alive Atlanta reports. The "interview" occurred earlier this week. He apparently had an interview set up with Trump for Monday but it didn't pan out, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Instead of saying Trump bailed on the interview, McCoy said Trump talked to him Tuesday, and used audio from an old interview, doctored so it sounded current, AJC reports. But the story crumbled when Trump's campaign team learned about the interview and said it didn't take place Tuesday, as claimed.
“For obvious reasons Steve McCoy no longer works at the station," the station's general manager Sean Shannon told 11Alive.
McCoy hasn't responded yet to reporters' requests for comments.
In the interview, posted to Buzzfeed, McCoy mostly asks Trump questions that had no time sensitivity, for example asking him about his wealth, personality and whether or not he cares about being liked. McCoy's excuse for this was that Trump had requested no questions be asked about his policy positions as a condition for doing the interview.
McCoy also asked if Trump was going to watch Tuesday's Democratic primary debate, to which the answer was "no."
Trump in fact did watch the debate and live tweeted it.
