Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was rushed to the hospital on Sunday afternoon for an "emergent bladder issue," the Pentagon said in a statement.
"Today, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III was transported by his security detail to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to be seen for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue," Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement, CBS News reported.
Austin came under fire after he was in the intensive care unit after complications from his surgery for his prostate cancer and failed to notify the president or the public.
After an uproar, Austin gave a press conference where he said he didn't want to reveal his health problems, preferring to keep them private. He apologized, saying that he now understands that as a public official, it's important to make more people aware of his situation.
