GOPers shouting 'shut up' at reporter turned into anti-MAGA ad
October 25, 2023
New GOP House speaker Mike Johnson is starting his election off with a bang, already making his way into an anti-MAGA advertisement.
Johnson's first moment as speaker was a viral one, when the entire GOP conference announced the decision to reporters and seemed to shut down any questions. Specifically, they booed and someone shouted "shut up!" when one reporter asked about Johnson's history as a 2020 election denier.
Now, that moment is already being used against them.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
The ad comes from the anti-MAGA group Courage for America.
"Today, Courage for America launched a new ad campaign to define Speaker Mike Johnson on day one of his speakership," the group announced. "The ads will run through the end of the month targeting every New York member of Congress who voted for Johnson."
José Morales, Jr., spokesperson for Courage for America, had this to say:
“Congressman Mike Johnson is a tried and true MAGA extremist and election denier who helped lead the charge to overturn the 2020 election results. He has no business being Speaker... His extreme agenda – from a national abortion ban to cuts to Social Security – will impact millions of New Yorkers, which is why it is absolutely imperative we come together and raise the alarm bell on this new MAGA Speaker and his divisive and deeply unpopular record.”
