MAGA is being split into multiple pieces, but the source is less like a knife and more like a slow-moving "infection," according to a former GOP lawmaker.
Former "Tea Party" Republican Rep. Denver Riggleman (VA), a Trump-skeptic Republican who helped assist the House Select Committee on January 6 with its investigation, has previously sounded the alarm about purportedly dangerous Republicans rising to power.
On Sunday, he was asked by a host, "When youthink about the ways in which Republicans and his base havebent themselves into pretzelsover the years to kind of be in line with whatever President Trump is saying ordoing, do you see this as apossible split, or does itmatter about the the actual endresult here?"
He replied, "I think it's sort ofadditive, right? I mean, whenyou're talking about MAGA itself, you know, I live in arural district here in Virginia... But here's the issue. There's three things happeningwith sort of this infection inMAGA."
He continued:
"I'm saying, you know, itreally is, it's almost likesepsis. I think the first thingis the Epstein files, becausethe conspiratorial nature ofMAGA. I think the second thingreally is Medicaid, health care,ACA, the cuts in the subsidies, because this affects ruralAmerica, which is a bunch ofred districts, right? R pluseight and above districts, which is the other thing whichI think is starting to infectand seep into the MAGA base. Ithink the third thing is MAGA is inherently nationalistic. Sowhen you're looking at this, these are not, the base, they'renot in policy meetings, they'renot looking at what 2025 saidabout re hemisphering, which iswhat they said about takingVenezuela and project 2025.They're looking at more wars."
