Maher shreds Gov. Brownback: 'Zombie lie' of trickle-down has driven KS into financial ruin

Real Time host Bill Maher blasted Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) on Friday for dragging his state into financial ruin through the "zombie lie" of trickle-down economics and using a trumped-up "scandal" to distract voters.

"Even Dorothy doesn't want to go home to Kansas now," Maher said. "Brownback's experiment was such a colossal failure that in a state that hasn't voted for a Democratic senator since the outhouse moved indoors, over 100 former Republican officials in Kansas endorsed the Democrat, Paul Davis."

In response, Maher said, Brownback released a campaign ad focusing on Davis -- who was not married at the time -- being in a strip club in 1998 when the club was raided.

"There was no sex," Maher explained. "There wasn't even whatever Anthony Weiner was doing."

The non-story, he said, was picked up by outlets like Politico and Meet The Press, giving it artificial legitimacy, leading to another ad asking whether the state can "afford" Davis' behavior.

"Let me get this straight, Kansas," Maher said. "Losing $1 billion in revenue and having your credit rating downgraded? That, you can afford. Sam Brownback, who is to governing what Kanye West is to humility, he's tolerable. But the lap dance guy -- that's a bridge too far. One last question, Kansas: you do understand, right, that Paul Davis never touched the stripper? But Sam Brownback f*cked your entire state."
