New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was sworn into office shortly after midnight on Thursday, followed by a public inauguration ceremony later that afternoon, and despite the enthusiastic crowd of thousands, Lara Trump took to Fox News Friday to decry the event for its apparent lack of music and other festivities.
“There were 4,000 people that came to this inauguration yesterday; there was no food, no music, no access to bathrooms, so welcome to communism everybody!” said Lara Trump, the wife of President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump. “You get what you get, you just shut up about it, and you sit there and you freeze and you don't go to the bathroom.”
Lara Trump launched her outburst while co-hosting Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” an outburst that was concurred with by her co-host Brian Kilmeade, who lauded Lara Trump’s take as a “great point.”
Mamdani won New York City’s mayoral contest handily back in November as the Democratic Party’s nominee, raking in more than 50% of the vote in the hotly contested race. He also became the first New York City mayoral candidate to receive more than 1 million votes since 1969.
Mamdani ran on a progressive platform pledging to implement recent freezes, establish more free public transit, build more public housing and increase taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents, some of whom went into panic after Mamdani secured the Democratic Party nomination.
While Mamdani has drawn the scorn of Lara Trump – alongside most conservative figures – her own father turned heads after showering Mamdani with praise and compliments during the two’s head-turning meeting at the White House in November, with many going as far as to describe Mamdani and President Trump’s relationship as a “bromance.”
