Man arrested for biting ear of youth basketball coach

An angry parent in Springfield, Massachusetts punched the winning coach and bit a piece of his ear off at his son's sixth grade basketball game last Friday.

According to USA Today, 34-year-old Timothy Forbes turned himself in to police Monday afternoon for his attack on the unidentified coach at the Holy Named School following a sixth grade boys' championship game.

According to WSHM-TV, officials of the basketball league did not know who Forbes was and indicated that he was never a coach or member of their league. Forbes' lawyer claims that his client was an assistant coach with the victim last year.

According to NBC Connecticut, the injured coach was rushed to Baystate Medical Center and received surgery for his damaged ear before returning home.

Forbes pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct, assault and battery, felony mayhem and other charges. He is scheduled to face a hearing later in the week to determine if he can be released on bail.
