Manafort and a Russian oligarch worked in the Mediterranean to sway another election: NYT reporter

Newly-uncovered documents reveal that Paul Manafort's work for foreign governments didn't end in Ukraine and Montenegro.

New York Times reporter Ken Vogel on Thursday uploaded a 2009 document Manafort sent Oleg Deripaska, his Russian oligarch business associate, that outlined a plan for them to work on behalf of a political party in Cyprus.

The Cypriot plan came days after TIME revealed that Manafort and Derpiska worked "to advance pro-Russian interests in Montenegro," Vogel noted.

On December 29, TIME reported that a former Russian arms dealer, Victor Boyarkin, worked as a middle-man between Manafort and a Kremlin-linked oligarch to whom he was indebted.

“He owed us a lot of money,” Boyarkin told TIME. “And he was offering ways to pay it back.”
