Marjorie Taylor Greene flip-flops on J6 video release
June 02, 2023
Two days after jubilantly announcing that security camera footage from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol would soon be released, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has apparently had a change of heart.
In a tweet Wednesday, Greene said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) had provided conservative commentators John Solomon and Julie Kelly, along with an unnamed third outlet, “unfettered” access to the tapes.
“This is the transparency the American people deserve and I look forward to their reporting!” she wrote.
Greene earlier this month called for the public release of the video footage.
“A lot of people are asking me when we are going to release the J6 video tapes,” Greene wrote in a May 11 tweet.
But the far-right congresswoman was singing a different tune on Friday.
Greene, during an appearance on “Just The News Not Noise” on Real America’s Voice, said she opposed the public release of the video.
She cited a baseless conspiracy theory that George Soros was funding efforts to use facial recognition technology to track down people who entered the Capitol amid the insurrection but didn’t engage in violence.
“Some of these people on January 6 did commit violence, They did break the law and of course and they had been charged and prosecuted,” Greene said.
“But there's a lot of people that have been targeted simply because they walked through the Capitol on January 6 and this is a real concern with the videotapes.”
Greene said that cited security of the Capitol among her concerns, noting that locations of some 1,700 video cameras would be revealed.
She also said releasing the video would “endanger many Americans that were simply standing on the Capitol grounds, maybe never even walked through the Capitol or committed any crimes, but they could have just walked further than where the barrier was, simply because the barrier was torn down by the time they got there.”
“Most of these people have never even or had never even been to Washington D.C. until that day on January 6, so there was no way for them to know that they had crossed the barrier because it was all torn down."
“There's a big concern because there's George Soros-funded groups, and many other leftist groups that will sit there and view these videotapes for hours and hours using facial recognition software and doxx people and hand them over to the FBI and the Department. Of justice. Who we have no control over.”
