Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), fresh off her tirade against the Senate parliamentarian, melted down Thursday afternoon over the House chaplain, whom she said needs to be replaced with a "good Christian."
Earlier in the day, Greene posted on X, calling for the parliamentarian to be fired. The parliamentarian is the official, nonpartisan advisor to the Senate tasked with interpreting and applying the chamber's rules, procedures, and legislative precedents.
"[Senate Majority Leader John] Thune needs to fire the Senate Parliamentarian, which he can!" she insisted.
Greene reiterated her plea during an appearance on MAGA ally Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast.
"We've got radical activist judges destroying President Trump's agenda, now we have a Senate parliamentarian that is acting like a far-left activist in her role. Leader Thune needs to fire her," Greene raged.
The congresswoman called for Thune to replace her with a "good Republican."
"Someone we know and we can trust and we need to be able to get this thing through," she continued, railing that "unelected bureaucrats" and judges can't stop "the people's agenda."
"It's getting to be infuriating," she said.
When Bannon asked why the GOP has kept the parliamentarian, who was appointed under the late Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV).
"I'll just say it to you very bluntly," she said. "Republicans do not know how to wield power. They do not know how to completely radically change the institution like it should be changed when we have the power and control," Greene said.
She then turned her ire onto the House chaplain, who performs ceremonial, symbolic, and pastoral duties.
"We have a chaplain that was appointed by Nancy Pelosi. Why do we have a chaplain that was appointed by Nancy Pelosi?" she raged.
Greene is referring to the Rev. Dr. Margaret Grun Kibben, who has served in this role since January 2021. Kibben is a Presbyterian minister, retired U.S. Navy rear admiral, and was the first woman to hold the position in either chamber.
"That's something that Mike Johnson can change like that," Greene added, snapping her fingers. "He can remove this chaplain that Nancy Pelosi appointed, that many Republicans do not want as our chaplain. He can remove her, and we can replace her with a good Christian chaplain. But that hasn't been done either. And I can't comprehend why they don't do these things."
