'Idiotic': Republican unleashes Marjorie Taylor Greene attack on live TV
March 31, 2024
A Republican congressman laid into his right-wing colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) Sunday for her push to remove the House speaker.
Greene made a move to oust Mike Johnson (R-LA) from the role earlier this month after the Speaker supported passing a House spending bill that includes aid for Ukraine. Though she introduced it, no vote has yet been scheduled on the motion to vacate the speaker's seat.
Speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) condemned the move as “idiotic.”
Bash had asked him if he believed Greene would follow through on her threat.
“I can't speak for her, obviously,” he said.
“She has introduced it. She has not yet made it privileged but, as I said the day that she introduced it, it's idiotic and it's not going to actually help advance the cause that she believes in.

“In fact, it undermines our House Republican majority. Look, voters enacted a House Republican majority because they wanted a check and balance on the Biden administration. They wanted to stop the reckless out-of-control spending that increased by 5 trillion in just two years and gave us record inflation. They didn't like the disastrous withdrawal out of Afghanistan, and they saw the disastrous foreign policy decisions that the Biden administration has made when it comes to Iran.
“ … Infighting does nothing to help advance any of those issues or policy positions. And in fact, that undermines our majority.”
Johnson took over as speaker in October last year after the right-wing faction of the Republican Party forced out Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and sparked a chaotic effort to replace him.
