North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson announced Tuesday that he intends to sue CNN over its bombshell report that claimed he was linked to adult websites and white supremacist message boards — and then was called out by a blunt reporter.
Robinson gave a short statement Tuesday's press conference before making his lawyer available to answer questions.
The pair were then immediately put on the defensive.
In a video clip, an unnamed reporter could be overheard asking: “So you’re saying that a national, a global news organization is conspiring with a third-party outfit to throw an election which was already looking like this person was not going to win?”
Another reporter in the crowd asked, if Robinson had as much proof as he was claiming, why was he standing just with his lawyer instead of being flanked by supportive Republican colleagues?
Another clip posted by the progressive super PAC American Bridge shows Robinson refusing to say the story was false. Instead, Robinson proclaimed the CNN story was, "One of the greatest examples of political interference in this state's history."
Legal analysts mocked the filing of the lawsuit, in part because it would give CNN access to Robinson's information through discovery.
