On Monday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said he briefed former President Donald Trump on his effort to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House.
After speaking about a so-called motion to "Vacate the Chair" on the House floor, Gaetz held a press conference where he was asked if he had talked to Trump about the plan.
"I have," Gaetz confirmed.

"And what was his advice to you?" CNN's Manu Raju pressed.
"I think I'm going to keep that between the two of us," Gaetz replied.
Just a day earlier, Trump claimed not to be aware of the motion to vacate.

"I don't know anything about those efforts, but I like both of them very much," Trump said at an event in Iowa.
