Meghan McCain sorry for Twitter cleavage snap

Meghan McCain, one of the daughters of former Republican presidential candidate John McCain, has apologized for using Twitter to post a picture in which she displayed an ample amount of cleavage.

The controversy surrounding her picture, which has now been taken down from Twitpic, was enough for McCain to reconsider having a Twitter account, though she ultimately decided she would not delete her account, but "will be more careful in the future about my use with the medium."

"I do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic," she Tweeted on Thursday. "I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry [to] those that are offended."

McCain, 24, who helped her father campaign for president last year and is a columnist for the website The Daily Beast, posted the photo she took of herself on Twitpic late Wednesday.

"My 'spontaneous' night in is my Andy Warhol biography and takeout," she said in a Tweet accompanying the picture. "I'm getting old."

After a string of comments were posted about the picture -- mostly from apparently male Twitter users -- McCain said she was "just trying to be funny" and was considering deleting her Twitter account.

"When I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a 'slut,'" she said on Twitter. "I can't even tell you how hurt I am.

"This is why I have been considering deleting my Twitter account, what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment," she said.

After saying she planned to "sleep on it," McCain took to Twitter again to apologize.

McCain, whose Twitter handle is @mccainBlogette, describes herself as a "moderate" member of the Republican Party and has come out in support of such liberal causes as gay marriage.
